The countries whose authors we represent offer substantial grants to foreign publishers for works in translation. This page provides basic information about these programmes.

Czech Grants

The Czech Ministry of Culture offers grants twice a year to support the international publication of Czech literature, including fiction, poetry, comics and children’s books. The funding helps foreign publishers cover publishing costs such as translation, design, typesetting, printing, copyright fees and promotion, and can cover up to 70% of total expenses. Support is available both for full book publications and for the translation of excerpts, helping publishers and translators bring Czech literature to readers abroad.

Additional details can be found on the Czech Literary Center website and the Ministry of Culture’s grant page. The contact person is Eliška Boumová (Eliska.Boumova@mk.gov.cz).

Slovak Grants

The Slovak Literary Centre runs the SLOLIA (Slovak Literature Abroad) grant system to support the international publication of Slovak literature in translation. Grants help foreign publishers cover costs related to translating and publishing works by Slovak authors in other languages, including poetry, prose, children’s books, drama and essays, and may also contribute toward printing expenses. Applications for translations into any language are welcome, and the programme aims to help Slovak writing reach readers around the world.

Additional details can be found on the Slovak Literary Centre’s SLOLIA page. The contact person is Dado Nagy (Dado.Nagy@litcentrum.sk).

Canadian Grants

The Canada Council for the Arts offers international translation grants as part of its Arts Across Canada and Abroad programme, supporting the translation of Canadian literary and dramatic works for publication or presentation abroad. The funding supports the translation of Canadian-authored works into foreign languages, as well as related promotional activities, helping bring Canadian literature and theatre to international audiences. Grants provide up to $20,000 for translation and up to $2,000 for promotional expenses per project, with a maximum total of $44,000 per calendar year.
