Marie Iljašenko

Marie Iljašenko is a Czech poet, writer, translator, and a laureate of the Tom Stoppard Prize (2023). She was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, into a family of Ukrainian-Czech-Polish descent. In 1992, her family moved to the Czech Republic. She has published three poetry collections, which have been nominated for several major Central European awards. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies and has been translated into English, German, Spanish, Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Romanian and Japanese. She also writes short stories, essays and columns, and translates poetry from Polish and Ukrainian into Czech. As an editor, she compiled an anthology of Ukrainian-Czech-Slovak reports on the beginning of the war, Chleba z minového pole (Bread from the Minefield, 2022).
